Adopting ´Learning in the Flow of Work´
Learning in the flow of work is one of the many solutions proposed to today's enterprise learning challenges. Employees use social media and search in their spare time to meet their curiosity, right when they need it. It is proposed that learning should be the same at work.
It is a learning concept, where a learning opportunity is made available, to a time-poor employee, as part of their day-to-day work, while being at work. It is putting a hot trigger in the path of a motivated employee.
However, every organisation must think about its adoption at the earliest, because of the following fundamentals.
Employees will find their way.
Employee learning is self-directed regardless of how you deliver it - training courses or learning resources. Learning is a personal endeavour regardless of its initiations. They will keep learning, with or without you.
Companies can take a leading role not dissociated from the employee experience.
The
notion of making learning ubiquitous, part of your work culture in
exciting, as long as the personal aspirations for a person to learn is directly related to the job.
Companies have an opportunity to be part of an employees' aspirations
and utilize the talent that they have been developing over
the years.
Taking an employee out of their workflow for training is expensive, and not very effective.
Learning involves many steps - from learning, to recollection, to discussion and application. These learning cycles cannot be executed in designed training courses. That´s a grand cost in wages and ineffective training. There ought to be a better way.
The efficiency of adopting such a program in a organisation is contested. Rightly
so, when today´s enterprise learning software cannot match the
consumer-grade user experience of YouTube, or Google - the existing
alternative to where employees learn today. And to top it all up, there is no real way to measure the progress of learning, or the capability of the employee.
The road is open ahead for a solution that just works, and at the same time, empower a company to support actionable people strategies.
